I have been making beautiful, functional things since boyhood. Normally I do this with clients and contractors as we make complex architecture happen. And mostly, each design is a custom solution, rarely replicated. In contrast, offering digital downloads in this Etsy Shop lets me solve very small problems for a very big audience. Unique to DesignDeliverables is really good fabrication guidance. God-is-in-the-details as they say and each Making Guide provides plenty. It is not enough to ideate a good design solution, you must try it out, and show others how to make it. And for that you need professional "deliverables".
For our products, a scaled Drawing is developed that provides "completed work" delineation in the "architectural style" that contractors are used to building from. This is likely in an AutoCAD file. Next a prototype is constructed either in SketchUp (a 3D CAD app) or in physical form. The prototype is used to capture "building process" photos. These photos (or screen grabs from the 3D model) are used to write a fabrication narrative that becomes part of the Making Guide. The Guide is a step-by-step recommendation for those that will build from the Digital Download package. After the prototype process is complete, the Drawings are revised to pick up the lessons learned in actual fabrication.
Most of my garden projects will be DIY or small-contractor oriented endeavors mixing in planting, structures, furniture, art, lighting, and yes: bird gear. Special Things for Residential Yards. Soon I will add glass and kinetics into my toolbox. As more design products come into the Shop I will add more photo & video production, potentially expanding Maker Guides beyond Text to Talkies. But that is yet another making project, eh?
